When you are helping students to learn the difference between expository writing intended to inform vs. to persuade, look right to the news for great information that appeals to them. I think the new Lego movie is a great topic. We haven't been to a kids movie since Disney's Frozen, but I think this is a good lesson that there is a long-standing toy brand with some staying power. If you want your students to be able to consume all kinds of text and stay interested, it's fun to find articles online and have the class discuss them in a group.
When we look for new information, we often use Google. It's tricky because you never know what you will find, but luckily the school web filters help to filter out a lot of content.
